Our Story

Welcome to my little corner of the internet,  where creatures are stitched, knitted, and gently coaxed into existence. Some are soft and slightly odd. Some are a bit spooky around the edges. All of them insist they are perfectly normal, despite clear evidence to the contrary.

I’ve been making creatures for many years, though they only officially escaped into the world under The Monster & Creature Emporium about three years ago. Before that, they lived quietly at home, multiplying in corners, shelves, and suspiciously quiet baskets.

Many are made using recycled fabrics wherever possible, because even forgotten materials deserve another life… especially when that life involves becoming a slightly unsettling but loveable rag creature. Others are knitted into being, stitch by stitch, as if they are being slowly remembered into existence.

This work became especially important when I became my mother’s full-time carer. Staying at home meant I needed something creative to keep my hands busy and my imagination from wandering too far into the dark. The creatures arrived like companions for that time, each one keeping me company in their own peculiar way.

No two creatures are ever the same. They arrive with different expressions, uneven personalities, and the occasional look that suggests they know more than they should. They are not mass-produced. They are not polished. They are simply… themselves.

This is my first website, and it may not be perfect. Some corners may feel a little creaky. Some pages may seem to watch you back. That’s all part of the charm.

Thank you for visiting The Monster & Creature Emporium. Please make yourself comfortable… and try not to blink at the wrong moment.

Margo

Margo is a Brother XL 5500 Special Edition, and she was my very first electric sewing machine. Sixteen years ago, my family pooled their resources to surprise me with this beautiful machine. Although it would be a few more years before I truly learned to use her properly, she was waiting patiently for me to grow into the sewist I hoped to become.

After countless projects, experiments, successes, and the occasional sewing mishap, Margo is showing her age. In fact, I used her so much that a local repair specialist had to file down the feed dogs after I wore them almost smooth! That's a testament to just how hard she's worked over the years.

I could never bring myself to part with her. These days, she serves as my trusted standby machine, always ready to step in when needed. More than just a sewing machine, Margo has been my teacher, my workshop companion, and the faithful partner that helped me learn, explore, and build my confidence at the sewing table.

Every scratch and worn part tells a story, and she's earned every one of them.
