Belladonna

Belladonna is a mysterious Day of the Dead doll, draped in black from head to toe. A delicate cobweb veil shadows her stitched face — was she once a bride? Her gown falls like mourning silk, bridal in shape yet touched with sorrow. In her hands she carries a small bouquet… though it’s hard to tell whether the flowers were meant for a wedding aisle or laid gently upon a grave. She was stitched into being in the dim light of my sitting room, where the floorboards creak in quiet protest and the clock ticks a little too loudly in the hush. Around her, my rag dolls sit with button eyes glinting in soft curiosity, silent witnesses to her creation. Like all my heritage collectible dolls, Belladonna is hand-sewn from mismatched fabrics and fragments of old lace, each piece chosen with care. And as always, a few secrets are tucked deep within her seams — hidden where only she can keep them.

Please note: Belladonna is a collectible art dolls intended for display and devotion only. She is not a toy, and is not suitable for children, also please do not wash her. She is not like the dolls you remember from childhood. She seems to watch. To listen. To remember.

    BOB .......The Worker!

This is a Bernina Bernette B35, otherwise known as Bob.

He’s my main sewing machine, and I worked hard and saved up to buy him brand new.

To be honest, my first impressions were disappointing.

The needle kept striking the throat plate, several screws and fittings were loose, and overall, the machine didn’t feel especially well assembled.

After a lot of trial, error, and late-night Googling, I managed to get everything adjusted and working properly. And to be fair, it now sews perfectly adequately for what I need. Would I buy another one? Probably not.

I still miss my old Brother machine, which now lives happily in Devon with my daughter.

That said, Bob has made every one of my dolls, so I can’t be too harsh on him. He may not be perfect, but he’s been part of the journey.
